What the adult trade looks like in Da Nang

Buying and selling sex are illegal in Vietnam, so adult services operate under cover of licensed spa, massage and karaoke businesses, and are policed as such. The most recent documented Da Nang case, in January 2026, was two spa businesses on the upper floors of hotels, raided simultaneously with more than 40 people questioned. Neither was in a "red-light district"; both were behind normal hotel signage on normal streets. That is the point: geography will not protect you in Da Nang, but the tells below will.

The tells: what residents look for

• Pink, red or blinking fluorescent lighting. Legitimate spas are brightly and plainly lit.
• "VIP" in the shop name or on the sign.
• No visible price menu at the door or reception.
• Frosted or curtained windows on an upper floor with no ground-floor reception.
• Staff seated outside calling people in, rather than a receptionist inside.
• Hours that run past 2am with no daytime trade.

The scams that actually happen

Reputable spas make the first three impossible by design: a posted, fixed menu; no negotiation; and the price you see is the price you pay. If a spa asks for your passport or room key as a deposit, leave.

Etiquette and what to expect

• A welcome herbal foot soak and tea first; disposable underwear for oil massages, which you keep on.
• Vietnamese massage is firmer than most Western visitors expect. Say what you want at the start; better spas ask.
• Asking for a male or female therapist is normal. Do it when you book.
• Tipping is optional. 50,000–100,000 VND for a session you loved is generous; Vietnamese customers often tip nothing.
• Book a day ahead at weekends, especially for a couples room, and in the March to August high season.

Where the touting is, and where it isn't

The pavement touting concentrates in An Thuong, the tourist quarter behind the southern end of My Khe beach, because that is where the foot traffic is. The same lanes hold several of the best-reviewed spas in the city, so the answer is not to avoid the area but to walk past the callers to the venue you chose from its reviews. The big massage houses in the My Khe hotel blocks and the city-centre spas in Hai Chau see little touting; the resort spas on the Non Nuoc strip see none.

The safest way to book

Book direct by phone, Zalo or WhatsApp with a named venue, or lock a fixed price on Klook or KKday before you arrive. Resort spas are booked through the hotel desk, usually a day ahead.
