Ubud's spas sit in four places visitors use. Central Ubud, Monkey Forest Road, Hanoman and Bisma hold 19 of the 35 venues here, all within 1.3 km of Ubud Palace. Campuhan, Penestanan and Kedewatan to the west and north-west have rice-field and river settings. Pengosekan and Peliatan lie to the south and east, and Tegallalang to the north. About 130,000-180,000 IDR ($7-10) for 60 minutes of Balinese massage at a well-reviewed budget shop and 225,000-420,000 IDR ($12-23) at most day spas. Mekar Ubud Jungle Spa, the highest posted price in our directory, lists 850,000 IDR ($47). Some of these prices exclude tax and service. Dollar figures use 18,130 IDR to the dollar, the Bank Indonesia reference rate on 6 November 2026.
What does ++ mean on an Ubud spa menu?
It means tax and service are added on top of the posted price. The amount varies by venue: Parina adds 10%, Karsa 15%, and Sang and Jaens 17.5%, while Tonic, Shinto, Lavanya and Shambala include both. Ask for the total before you start.
Should I tip for a massage in Ubud?
It is up to you. Ubud Traditional Spa's menu says gratuities are entirely optional. We found no official Indonesian figure for a massage tip, and no review in our Google sample described staff demanding one.
Is massage in Ubud safe?
For most people, yes: the US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health describes the overall risk from massage as low, with rare serious harms. Tell the therapist before you start if you are pregnant, have osteoporosis, take blood thinners or have had recent surgery, and choose a venue with a published menu and prices.
What is a flower bath?
A soak in a bath with flowers or petals in the water, sold on its own or as part of a package. Tamarind Spa lists 30 minutes at 100,000 IDR, Melya Dewi at 200,000 IDR and Love Spa at 400,000 IDR.
Are Ubud spas open on Nyepi?
Plan on no. Nyepi, Bali's day of silence, falls on Monday 8 March 2027. The Bali provincial government describes routine activity stopping for 24 hours from 6am, with no vehicles on the roads, the airport closed and people staying indoors.
