TL;DR

A 60-minute Balinese massage in Ubud costs 130,000โ€“180,000 IDR ($7โ€“10) at a well-reviewed budget shop and 225,000โ€“420,000 IDR ($12โ€“23) at most day spas. The highest posted price in our directory is 850,000 IDR ($47) at Mekar. The menu price is often not the total: some spas include tax and service and others add 10% to 17.5%, so Karsa's 240,000 IDR comes to 276,000, while Tonic's 310,000 IDR is the full price. Tipping is up to you.

Mid-range: 225,000โ€“420,000 IDR

Most venues sit here. Above 300,000 are Tonic at 310,000, Shinto at 325,000, Nomads Haus from 350,000, Amati at 360,000, Lumiรฉre at 390,000 and Love Spa at 420,000.

The top of our list

Mekar Ubud Jungle Spa lists its 60-minute Bali Harmony Massage at 850,000 IDR plus tax and service. Hesa Wellness Spa sells a 90-minute visit with 60 minutes of Balinese massage at 600,000 IDR plus 10% VAT, and its basic treatments include 30 minutes in its facilities. Sang Spa lists a 90-minute Balinese massage package at 499,000 IDR plus 17.5%. Jaens Spa lists a 90-minute hot stone massage at 865,000 IDR plus 17.5%.

Chaya Spa at Kamandalu, the one resort spa we list, publishes no plain 60-minute massage price. Its spa page gives a 45-minute flower bath at 1,150,000 IDR for up to two people and its booking page gives 1,100,000 IDR per person, both before tax and service, so check which applies.

No readable price list

We could not read a massage price for INKA, Nusa Therapy, Bali Botanica, Paddy Spa, Harighan or Putri Bali Spa. INKA has more Google reviews than any other single branch in our directory, so this is not a sign of a small operation. Ask for the price before you start.

The menu price is often not the total

Two menus can show the same treatment at prices that mean different things. This is what 60 minutes costs once the venue's stated charges are added.

Tonic and Parina look 40,000 IDR apart on their menus and end up 13,000 IDR apart. Mekar and Chaya print "++" without giving a percentage, so ask for the total. Most other menus we read do not say either way, and that does not mean the price is final.

Why the added percentage varies

Indonesia's Law 1 of 2022 puts spas in a special regional tax band of 40% to 75%. Gianyar, the regency that includes Ubud, set its rate at 40% in 2023. A regent's regulation in February 2024 then cut the tax due from spas by 68.75%, which by our arithmetic leaves 12.5% of the taxable amount. That reduction does not apply to spas that are hotel facilities. In January 2025 the Constitutional Court ruled that the spa category must be read as part of traditional health services, and left the 40% to 75% band in place.

We have not seen how any single venue is classified, so we cannot say what a given spa pays, and a venue can add its own service charge as well. Do not assume "++" means 40%. Use the venue's stated figure. For comparison, Tejas Spa, a hotel spa at Adiwana Bisma that is not in our directory, printed 23.75% on its 2023 menu.

Card fees, and what the price includes

  • Card fees: Karsa's booking page states a 3% bank charge on card payments. Lumiรฉre states 2% on Visa and Mastercard and 3.25% on American Express. Ask before you pay by card.
  • Drinks: Hita Spa says every treatment includes a welcome drink and tea afterwards. Terakota serves herbal tea with every treatment, and Karsa serves a ginger, lemongrass and pandan tea.
  • Pickup: Putri Bali Spa advertises free one-way pickup in the Ubud area for two or more people. Ubud Traditional Spa advertises a free shuttle without stating the zone, so confirm it when you book.
  • Facilities: Hesa's basic treatments include 30 minutes in its steam room and hot and cold plunge pools.

Tipping in Ubud

Tipping is optional. Ubud Traditional Spa's menu says gratuities are entirely optional and appreciated. We found no official Indonesian or Bali tourism figure for a massage tip, so we are not giving one. In the 730 Google reviews we sampled across Ubud venues, none described staff demanding a tip. A service charge on your bill is a venue charge, and no spa we read says how it is shared with therapists, so if you want the therapist to have the money, hand it to them.
