TL;DR

Most of Ubud's massage is in the town centre. Central Ubud and Monkey Forest Road hold 16 of the 35 venues in our directory, all within 1.3 km of Ubud Palace, from 130,000 IDR shops to day spas. Hanoman and Bisma add three more. Go west to Campuhan (1.7–2 km) or north-west to Kedewatan (3.1–3.4 km) for rice-field and river settings. Pengosekan, about 1.8 km south, has Jaens and Lumiére. The spas around Tegallalang are 4.6–7.7 km out, so plan on a ride.

How we measured

Distances on this page are straight lines from Ubud Palace, worked out from each venue's Google Maps pin. Walking or driving distances are longer, and Ubud's roads wind around river valleys.

Central Ubud: the most choice on foot

The palace and Jalan Raya Ubud are the shop and restaurant core of the town, and the usual base for a first visit, with traffic and noise on the main roads. Nine venues in our directory are here, all within 700 m of the palace: Carla House (100 m), Harighan (200 m), Hita Spa (300 m), Love Spa and Nusa Therapy (500 m), Juwuk Manis and Hesa (600 m), and Sang Spa and Tamarind Spa (700 m). Posted prices for 60 minutes of Balinese massage run from 145,000 IDR at Juwuk Manis to 420,000 IDR at Love Spa.

Monkey Forest Road: the busy corridor south

Monkey Forest Road runs south from the town centre to the Sacred Monkey Forest, and it is a busy road with shops and restaurants along it. Seven venues here cover the widest price spread in town. Terakota sits at the top of the road, just south of Ubud Market. INKA and Parina are 800 m from the palace, Melya Dewi and Shambala 900 m, and Lavanya and Tonic 1.3 km, towards the forest. Melya Dewi has the lowest posted price in our directory at 130,000 IDR. Tonic and Shambala include tax and service in their prices.

Hanoman and Bisma: a street or two from the centre

Jalan Hanoman is a shopping and dining street running south from Jalan Raya Ubud, and a practical base for walking to restaurants and the palace. Ubud Bodyworks Centre (600 m), which also runs yoga classes, and Jhagat Spa Centre (900 m) are here. Jalan Bisma runs west of the centre, with hotels and guesthouses on a quieter side street. T Glow Spa is 600 m from the palace, with a signature oil massage at 175,000 IDR, all-inclusive. Jaens and Sang also have branches close by.

Campuhan, Sanggingan and Penestanan: west of town

The west side is quieter, with views and galleries, and Jalan Raya Sanggingan is a restaurant strip. Bali Botanica (1.7 km), The FACES (1.9 km) and Putri Bali Spa (2 km) are on that road. Karsa Spa (1.9 km) is just north of the Campuhan Ridge walk, with indoor and outdoor rooms beside a lotus pond. Penestanan is a quieter village area with lanes and steps, and Nomads Haus (1.4 km) is there. Putri Bali Spa advertises free one-way pickup in the Ubud area for two or more people.

Kedewatan: rice fields and river valleys

North-west of the centre, Kedewatan and Sayan are set among river valleys and hillside greenery, and you need a ride for most meals. Green Tara Spa (3.1 km) has river-view rooms and Ubud Traditional Spa (3.4 km) is on the same road, Jalan Rsi Markandya. Shinto Spa (3.4 km) is a Japanese-style spa at Mason Adventure Centre, with tax and service included in its prices. Ubud Traditional Spa advertises a free shuttle, but does not state the area it covers.

Pengosekan and Peliatan: south and east

Jalan Raya Pengosekan is a southern corridor of accommodation, galleries and services, with a large cluster of spas. Jaens Spa Center (1.7 km), Gisella Spa (1.8 km) and Lumiére Spa (1.9 km) are in our directory, and Sang and Carla have branches here. Gisella charges 160,000 IDR for an hour and Lumiére 390,000, so the street covers both ends of the range. East of the centre, Peliatan is a quieter village area. On Jalan Raya Andong in Petulu are Amati Spa (1 km), with its herbal sauna, steam room and Korean-style scrubs, and Chaya Spa at Kamandalu (1.9 km).

Tegallalang and the north

North of town the spas are on rural roads around rice terraces, and you will drive in for dinner. Tegal Mesari (4.6 km) and Paddy Spa (4.9 km) are in Kelabang Moding. Mekar Ubud Jungle Spa (7.7 km) in Kedisan has the highest posted massage price in our directory, at 850,000 IDR plus tax and service, with five treatment cocoons. These three suit a planned half-day better than a walk-in hour.

Resort spas: why we list only one

Many Ubud resorts have spas, but we list a resort spa only when its own pages say people who are not staying can book. Chaya Spa is the one that does: its booking page says "Open to: Resort guests and spa visitors". The pages we read for Four Seasons Sayan, Mandapa, COMO Uma Ubud, Anantara and The Udaya do not say either way, which does not mean they refuse outside guests. Spa at Maya offers pickup with a treatment, for bookings made at least 24 hours ahead, without stating who can book. Ask the resort before you plan a visit.

Getting between areas

  • On foot: central Ubud, Monkey Forest Road, Hanoman and Bisma are walkable. Penestanan is a walk or a short ride. Kedewatan and Tegallalang need a ride.
  • Ride-hailing: local guides say some villages and tourist zones restrict Grab and Gojek pickups, so you may need to walk to another road or use a local driver. We found no official map of where this applies.
  • Traffic: a travel-news report from October 2026 says part of Jalan Raya Ubud became one-way eastbound, from the Monkey Forest junction. We could not confirm it with an official notice, so follow the road signs.
  • From the airport: Four Seasons Sayan gives 35 km and about 75 minutes by car to its property. We found no reliable fixed fare to quote.

Nyepi closes everything

Nyepi, Bali's day of silence, falls on Monday 8 March 2027. The Bali provincial government describes routine activity stopping for 24 hours from 6am, with no vehicles on the roads, the airport and seaports closed, and people staying indoors. Do not plan a spa visit that day.
